How to Add a Link to Your Instagram Story<\/h2>\n

Follow these steps if you\u2019d like to add a link to your Instagram Story:<\/p>\n

1. Create your Instagram Story.<\/h3>\n

On the Instagram app, tap the circle with your profile picture and a white and blue plus sign where it says \u201cYour story\u201d at the top of your screen. Then, either record a Story or choose a photo or video from your Library to add to your Story.<\/p>\n

2. Tap the sticker button.<\/h3>\n

The sticker button will be at the top of your screen. It looks like a smiling face in a square that\u2019s peeling off the screen.<\/p>\n

3. Select the link sticker.<\/h3>\n

Once you tap the sticker button, all of your sticker options will appear. Here you\u2019ll find the link sticker, a white rectangle with the word \u201cLINK\u201d written in blue next to a chain link symbol.<\/p>\n

4. Add the URL.<\/h3>\n

After you tap the link sticker, a new page will appear. You\u2019ll see a spot to write or paste in the URL you\u2019d like the link to go to. Add the URL here.<\/p>\n

5. (Optional) Customize your sticker text.<\/h3>\n

If you add the URL, Instagram will automatically create a shortened version of it to display on the link sticker. So you can go ahead and publish your Story right after adding the URL if you\u2019d like. But you also have the option to change the sticker text to whatever you\u2019d like it to say. On the same page where you added the URL, you\u2019ll see underneath that it says, \u201cCustomize sticker text.\u201d Tap there, and then type in what you\u2019d like the sticker to display.<\/p>\n

What Happened to the Swipe-Up Feature?<\/h2>\n

When Instagram Stories first arrived in 2016, these 24-hour posts had no way to include a link. As a result, a poster needed to include in their Story \u201cLink in Bio\u201d to direct viewers to their profile, where they would find the link. This method was rather inefficient, so Instagram created a new way to lead audiences to places off of the app.<\/p>\n

With the swipe-up feature, viewers could swipe up on a Story or tap an arrow at the bottom of their screen to access a link without departing the Instagram app or leaving their Stories to go to the creator\u2019s bio to find the link. The only problem? Not everyone had this feature. Only verified accounts or ones with over 10,000 followers had access to this ability.
